Pancake Tortoise
Malacochersus tornieri ON EXHIBIT: Turtle Gallery in River Journey

FUN FACTS
Pancake tortoises are climbers, not roamers like other tortoises, and inhabit rock outcroppings where they find shelter is rock crevices. Their soft, flexible shell permits them to wedge themselves into tight spaces where they are safe from predators. Individuals of this species have very small home ranges and rarely stray far from the safety of their rock refuges.
CONSERVATION
Their soft shells make them extremely vulnerable.
