In fall of 2019, a team of biologists from the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute and Georgia Department of Natural Resources traveled to Elijay, Georgia, to sample streams for federally threatened Goldline Darters.
This rare species is found in just a handful of streams and river systems in North Georgia and North Alabama. Fortunately, the survey found that human activity hasn’t affected previously studied populations of these golden-scaled, two- to three-inch fish.
