Introducing: Deep Breaths

Date Jan 19, 2021
Published in Currents

Feeling stressed? We’re rolling out a new series of videos to help you consciously control your breathing while enjoying calming views from around the Aquarium. First up: brook trout swimming in the Cove Forest.

Based on a mindful yogic teachings, 4-7-8 breathing — also known as conscious breathing or “the relaxing breath” — can help to place yourself in a relaxed state. This equipment-less technique is based around breathing in a specific ratio: in through the nose to a count of four, holding the breath for a count of seven and breathing out through the mouth to a count of eight.

This video series’ soothing music and relaxing imagery of the animals at the Tennessee Aquarium features a lighted, growing/shrinking symbol to help guide you through the technique.

Visit our YouTube playlist for more Deep Breath videos.
