The residents of the Rivers of the World gallery are fed five times each week. Three of these “meals” are larger — about 5.5 pounds of restaurant-quality seafood — and it takes a LONG time (and skillful knife work) for aquarists to process that much food to the right size for sometimes very-tiny mouths.
Every year, the Aquarium spends more than $166,000 to feed the more than 10,000 animals in our care.
