The Short-tail Nurse Shark is a critically endangered species found off the east coast of Africa. One of our backup care facilities is now home to one of the only North American-based breeding group of this minuscule shark, which tops out at just 30 inches!
Recently, one of the sharks’ eggs was ready to hatch. In human care, however, the natural processes that help the leathery eggs to open naturally don’t occur. Fortunately, our senior aquarist was there with a clutch assist to get the healthy pup out and swimming safely!
