The Tennessee Aquarium IMAX Theater features the IMAX with Laser projection system! Chattanooga is one of the only cities in the world with this new technology.
Your cinema experience will be improved because of these upgrades:
- Installation of two 4K laser projectors.
- Installation of a new 12-channel audio system with new speakers, and for the first time, new speakers added in the ceiling.
- Installation of a new six-story screen.
Technical Aspects of IMAX with Laser:
- The system is designed for giant screen theaters. (Ones with screens 75 feet or greater in width.) The Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater is Chattanooga’s largest screen. It’s 66 feet tall and 89 feet wide. The bright, clear images produced by IMAX with Laser will fill the screen.
- Two 4K laser projectors deliver a perceived resolution greater than the best 4K TVs you’ve seen.
- 12 channel audio system with sub-bass and additional ceiling and side wall speakers will deliver a pinpoint sound experience.
- IMAX’s 24/7 Network Operations Center will constantly monitor our IMAX with Laser projection system to ensure our audiences see the best picture quality for every film every time.
This state of the art technology produces brighter images, sharper contrast, expanded colors and better sound.
“Solar Brightness”
A laser light source provides substantially more brightness than a xenon bulb, and will allow IMAX to fill its largest screens with even sharper and more lifelike images. This is significant for 3D because 3D glasses dim the image. With IMAX’s laser technology, audiences are going to be able to experience unparalleled brightness in 2D and 3D.
“Bottomless Blacks”
Contrast is the difference between the whitest white and the blackest black. IMAX has always delivered the greatest contrast available to filmmakers but now will reach contrast levels substantially higher than ever before. This means more detail in the image, and a heightened level of realism that makes movie-goers forget they are watching a movie.
“Endless Colors”
IMAX with laser will allow filmmakers to explore and expand their use of colors by providing a wider gamut of colors, and a more vivid, lifelike image. Audiences will get to experience colors that exist in the real world but have never been seen onscreen.
“Soul-Stirring Sound”
IMAX with laser includes a next-generation sound system that features 12 discrete channels plus sub-bass. The enhanced system includes new loudspeakers on the ceiling as well as additional ones on the side. Whether it’s a pin drop or feeling the heart-palpating force of a volcano, audiences will experience a new kind of visceral sound experience.
