Horticulture Volunteer

You don’t have to have a green thumb to work as a horticulture volunteer.

Volunteers are trained to provide daily care can keep our exhibits looking healthy and clean. You can also choose to care for the water plants in our tanks and back-up areas.

Please note: The application process for Aquarium volunteers is currently closed.

Work areas to choose from:

  • The Cove Forest: The shift is from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The Cove duties include sweeping, watering and spreading leaves to give the cove exhibit a natural look at opening time.
  • Naiads: Assist the horticulture department with the care and maintenance of aquatic plants in the Delta gallery in the mornings before the Aquarium opens.
  • Interior Plants: This is a chance to learn about house plants while volunteering. There are two shifts to choose from 4 – 5:30 p.m. at the IMAX Theater or 8:30 – 10 a.m. at the Tennessee Aquarium.
  • IMAX Garden and Pond: Working twice a month on the garden/courtyard or tending the pond for 3-4 hours each visit (prefer gardeners or Master Gardeners).
