Appearing to perform an underwater ballet as they float through the water, moon jellyfish (or Moon Jellies as they’re often called) can be found in every ocean on Earth, but their origins remain a mystery in terms of where they originated from. Among the oldest multi-organ animal in the world, fossil evidence indicates that jellyfish are over 500 million old as a species. Moon jellyfish are also an important part of their ecosystem because they provide food for animals like sea turtles, fish, birds, and even other jellyfish!
