Carolina rose is a deciduous shrub with characteristic rose stems that are armed with thin prickles. Large pink flowers with yellow stamens bloom from May to July, a favorite amongst bees. This plant suckers to form dense thickets that get to be 3-4’ tall. Leaves turn red, orange and yellow in the fall leaving red rose hips that persist through winter. These rose hips are edible to humans and birds alike.
