This long-lived butterfly is notable as the only member of it’s subfamily which is oligophagous! That means it only eats a few certain things. Those particular plants that it eats are what give it it’s toxic taste to would-be predators and the coloring on their wings is also used to warn other animals that trying to eat it is a bad idea.
