A 2-4’ clump-forming perennial. Slender branching stems and leaves turn from reddish to golden brown color in fall and persist like this well into winter. In summer, as the name suggests, hues of blue, pink, and purple make this grass look like a yummy assortment of cotton candy. In late summer, it produces a single raceme of flowers that give way to fluffy seed plumes that persist throughout winter. Found in shallow and dry soils, little bluestem is a tough plant that adds natural beauty to places others can’t.
