New strategic giving officer joins the Aquarium

Jason Sanders is the new strategic giving officer at the Tennessee Aquarium, expanding the development team

Chattanooga, Tenn. (May 5, 2026) – Strategic Giving Officer Jason Sanders is the newest member of the Tennessee Aquarium’s development team, expanding the Aquarium’s donor-focused work.

Sanders brings a strong background in relationship-based, future-oriented fundraising. He will partner with Development Manager Mary Anne Williams and the existing development team at the Aquarium to achieve mission-aligned goals. Over the past seven years in hospital and university fundraising, Sanders has helped donors make nearly $30 million in transformational gifts.

Prior to joining the Tennessee Aquarium, Sanders served as Director of Planned Giving at Akron Children’s Hospital in Ohio, where he oversaw the Foundation’s planned giving program. He has also served as Director of Gift and Estate Planning at Cleveland State University and Assistant Director of Development at the University of Akron.

He graduated cum laude from the University of Akron School of Law in December 2022. He also holds a master’s degree in sport administration from Mississippi State University and a bachelor’s degree in communication from Jacksonville State University.

Originally from Fyffe, Alabama, Jason now resides in Chattanooga. “Growing up in northeast Alabama, I’ve spent my fair share of time enjoying the waters and wildlife of Lake Guntersville and the Tennessee River,” shares Sanders.

“It’s so rewarding to use my skills not only to advance the Aquarium’s mission but also to give back to the region I call home. It’s even more exciting knowing I’m not alone, with all the amazing staff and support at the Aquarium!”
