On April 1 every year, the Gentoo Penguins and Macaroni Penguins in our Penguins’ Rock gallery kick off the start of nesting season with the arrival of hundreds of pounds of smooth and rough stones. This event, better known as “Rock Day,” signals the birds to begin building their nests using the same kind of materials they would find throughout their native range. Keep an eye on our always-online Penguins’ Rock cam to observe this exciting time, including the anticipated arrival of eggs and (hopefully) chicks later in the spring!
