Guest Research and Evaluation Volunteers support the Tennessee Aquarium’s efforts to understand and improve the guest experience. Volunteers collect and document information through surveys, observations, and other evaluation activities. The information gathered helps inform decisions that enhance visitor experiences, educational programs, exhibits, and Aquarium operations.

Volunteer Evaluators should:
• Be prompt and reliable.
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Follow established evaluation protocols and data collection procedures.
• Experienced with customer service, data collection, research, or education preferred but not required. Training will be provided.
• Commit to a volunteer schedule once a week or once every other week.
• Be comfortable interacting with guests in busy public environments, which may include crowded areas, varying noise levels, and different indoor and outdoor conditions.
• Be able to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties may include standing for extended periods, moving throughout Aquarium spaces, and interacting with guests.
- Conduct evaluations activities throughout the Aquarium, including but not limited to
- Visitor Intercept Surveys
- Guest observations
- Animal and exhibit observations
- Approach and engage guests in a friendly, respectful, and inclusive manner to invite participation in surveys and other evaluation activities.
- Accurately collect and record data using established evaluation procedures and technology.
- Maintain confidentiality of guest information and adhere to all ethical, privacy, and data collection guidelines.
- Interact professionally and respectfully with guests, volunteers, and staff members.
- Communicate observations, questions, and concerns to the Evaluation Specialist.
- Assist the Evaluation Specialist with evaluation-related projects and other assigned tasks as needed.
- Protect confidential information collected during evaluations and follow all Aquarium privacy and data security policies.

• Volunteers are asked to commit to one weekday shift each week or every other week. Schedules are determined collaboratively with the Evaluation Specialist.
• Flexible hours within the typical 9:00am-5:00pm workday
Minimum commitment: Six months of volunteer service.
