The dwarf crocodile is the world's smallest crocodile. This crocodile feeds primarily on fish during the wet season when the floods connect ponds and marshes to larger rivers. During the dry season they are forced to eat crustaceans and mollusks and their food intake is greatly reduced.

They are designated as a vulnerable species in the wild. They are vulnerable to habitat change and hunting. They are often killed for food.
