The Short-tail Nurse Shark is a critically endangered species found off the east coast of Africa. The Tennessee Aquarium is home to one of the only North America-based breeding groups in an animal care institution for this minuscule shark which tops out at just 30 inches. Recently, three Short-tail Nurse Shark eggs were ready to hatch. In human care, the natural processes that help the leathery eggs to open naturally don’t occur. Fortunately, our senior aquarist was there to welcome the pups and assist them with their egress!
