The Rainbow Shiner is restricted to the Mobile Basin in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, with a single population in a tributary to the Tennessee River in Alabama. They are found in pools of small creeks. As the common name suggests, Rainbow Shiners have a wide variety of coloration on their body and fins, including red, orange, pink, yellow, blue, and violet.
